“Dices que me quieres
se que no puede ser
pero cuando tu me besas
te lo vuelvo a creer.
No se como lo haces
me vas a enloquecer
las cosas que me pasan
no las puedo comprender.”
“Ah-Ah / O-No” (1972), Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe
Puertorriqueños en San Antonio. My family isn’t necessarily one for sharing stories, but we liked to laugh and there was always music around. Growing up, Sunday mornings were signaled by salsa or merengue – often Juan Luis Guerra or Celia Cruz – playing in the living room while we made breakfast. As kids, my Dad would play the song “Ah-Ah / O-No” by Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe while driving around the suburbs. With my Dad, my brother José and our friend Javi, the four of us would often perform the track in the car. My Dad, a gastroenterologist, came up with the name of our group: the Fartabulous.
